Temple Bells

Temple Bells

Malliha Sinniah

Temple bells herald the new day

The household wakes up to a new beginning.

Fresh flowers in hand, devotees walk to the temple

Of Vinayaka, the foremost God, ruler of the world.

Bitter-sweet yesterday dismissed in slumber

Lingering past thoughts cast off in bed

Moving forward, a new mind blooms this morning

To worship God, the remover of obstacles.

Blowing conch hails the curtains drawn

At once

Lamplight defines the holy form, a shiny brilliance.

Glorious horizon welcomes the rising sun

And they hasten to be with peerless Ganapathy.

The tusked One steps into the invoking heart

Tramples and weeds out dark thoughts

That single-minded prayer at the break of dawn

Fills even the weary heart with strength, so beautiful!
