Poetry from Batticaloa

The anthology Poetry from Batticaloa carries twenty-three Tamil poems on a range of topics marked by divinity, nature and human relationships. Each Tamil poem is followed by its English translation.

The middle section is a drama-in-verse which drives home the doctrine of karma, the belief that one creates one’s own destiny.

The concluding part carries thirteen songs on a lighter note, mostly based on up-beat tunes from the cinema, which Kamalabooshanie choreographed into dances for interschool competitions and fundraising concerts during her career as the head of the Ramakrishna Mission Girls School.

In honour of the poet’s dedication to the Ramakrishna Mission, all gains including all royalties from Poetry from Batticaloa are directed as donations to the Brisbane chapter of the Vedanta Centre (Ramakrishna Mission in Australia).
