Kanakambaram

Kanakambaram

Malliha Sinniah

Dawn.

Darkness shrinks.

Blushing horizon hails the emerging sun

Beautiful sun starts out on his procession

To light up and define shapes. To kindle a new life.

Densely spread shrub sways, droops, sprawls.

Through the garden bed of lush leaves

Fresh kanaka flower lifts her head high

A perfect picture.

A sign of prosperity.

Within the deep green forest

Kanaka is a delight to the eye

Fading leaf refuses water, dries and shrivels

Tender shoot sprouts to take its place.

Full bloom awaits the banded bee

Half-closed bud rejected by the selective bee

Petite bud untouched by even the bee’s shadow

Green bud loses out, mistaken for another leaf.

Mature flower drops. Why mourn? Think.

Today’s bud will soon be tomorrow’s flower

Why does nature design so?

Bloom, allure, wither all in the one day.

To make the best use of God-given today!
